Zebra Louis XIV Chest

Need a big wow for a room? Look no further than this Zebra Louis XIV style chest by Sultanchic. At first glance, I thought the finish was decorative painting, but info I found at The Yellow Door told me it was zebra-printed fabric with lacquer. Either way, it’s pretty stunning.
At a price tag of about $5600, I would probably choose to DIY a similarly styled item. The least expensive similarly-shaped item I could find online (in five minutes of searching) was this Louis XIV style nightstand at Old World Home Decor for $336, or this faux plantation 300 pound chest for $333.
If I were making this zebra chest, I would do a decorative paint job instead of adhering fabric because it just seems a lot simpler to me. I like the projector zebra-pattern technique Samantha used for her DIY zebra rug. I wonder how it would work on a 3D object? Even without a projector, it seems like a pattern you could sketch out if you were careful and referred to zebra photos (or zebra rug photos).
What do you think of this chest?

I JUST finished a zebra table on Sunday http://www.lucydesignsonline.com/2011/03/zebra-table-before-and-after.html altho mine is nowhere near as gorgeous as this piece!
Wow!I really like animal print, this is an exquisite piece! Heavy price tag though. It does seem like it would be just as ‘wowable’ to paint or cover an old piece of furniture for less…
This is kick ass…no other way to put it. The fabric wouldnt be difficult but not sure I would like fabric. But if someone does want to try the fabric… Buy a gallon (at least and its about $40 a gallon) of polyacrylic (water based and easy clean up) and pour it into a shallow bin of some sort. The bigger it is the easier it will be. Pre size and cut your fabric to fit each area then dunk the fabric in the poly and let it soak up some…squeeze it out a good bit then just literally slap it on and smooth it out. Do a test drive on that with a smaller piece. Its easy actually. Cover entire drawer area and when dry cut in between. You can always tidy it up with more poly. Think I will paint and antique mine but this is def on my wish list. It might could be done with something more economical like wall paper paste but I havent used that technique. Play with that too and see before you spend the bucks on the polyacrylic.
