Fake a Built-In
Use the unifying power of color to create a built-in look. Using separate pieces such as a bench and a floating shelf, you can create the illusion of a built-in piece by painting everything in the virtual built-in the same color. It will trick the eye into seeing the separate pieces as a single unit.
I did a similar thing to the mantle in my last apartment. It’s just a mantle without a fireplace, so I painted the wall to match and built a TV stand. It all looked like one beautiful piece
