Doily Skull Pillow
This is not your grandmother’s doily pillow! The skull pillow is made from black velvet, a doily, and sparkly buttons and was inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead decorations. The projects requires a little bit of hand sewing but can be made for very little cash. And what an awesome result!

I just don’t understand this fascination with skulls and other symbols of death. Why in the world would anyone other than a practitioner of the occult want this in a home? Even Halloween decorations and celebrations have moved beyond the pale. How’s that for a morbid statement? Get it?
Not everyone’s tastes are the same, that is the beauty of personalizing your own home’s decor.
Hi Sylvia
My husband and I made the cushion above that you commented on. I wanted to answer your question about ‘symbols of death’ in the home. Day of the Dead skulls aren’t actually about death, they’re about remembering, honoring, and praying for friends and family members who have passed away. The skulls are part of a very old Mexican festival. So while I can see what you’re saying about the morbidity of skulls in design, it really is just a matter of perspective. I certainly don’t think of darkness or death when I look at the cushion on my couch
