5 Ways To Use Your Patio

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE relaxing in the great outdoors. I recently moved into a new apartment and have a patio – yay! I’m so excited because it’s the first time in quite awhile that I’ve had an outdoor space to call my own. It’s pretty large, so there are several things I’d like to try, and I’ve chosen my five favorite options that you might also want to try yourself. On your own patio. The first? Gardening. I have a bit of a green thumb, and I love raising cool plants, so I can’t wait to get some potted plants out onto my patio.

Another activity I’ve always wanted to try? As the nights get cooler and the bugs subside around Atlanta, I’d love to try “glamping.” If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically an upscale version without the real camping-in-the-woods part. I actually have a forestry degree and have spent my fair share of time in the wilderness, so I love camping . . . but I also appreciate a more relaxed version that involves a kitchen and a running shower. Drag a small mattress out onto the patio, pour a glass of wine and grab a book. How fun is that?

I’m a game player. not with people’s emotions, but with real life games that you can enjoy with others. Desiree had such a blast making games for her patio, and she’s inspired me to try something myself. I don’t know that I have enough room for shuffleboard or anything like that, but I like this dice game she invented (shown above). You (I mean me) could do an adult version as well. OR you could just settle for board games on the patio – and if we’re talking Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, I’m in.

I love just sitting on the patio in a chair and relaxing, and I really love looking at the stars. I’ve never seen such bright stars in my whole life as I did on Baker Beach in Florence, Oregon many years ago. I’m hoping to just get a percentage of that type of view from my own porch. You can go for a telescope, but I might just star gaze without one. I have a book somewhere, actually – I just have to find it.

Finally, I’m a huge, huge fan of fire pits. You have to be cautious about these sorts of things (AND my patio isn’t huge) but there are all sizes of fire pits available to purchase if you are so inclined. I love sitting around a fire pit, especially in the winter – it’s a great way to sit outside and keep warm. You can also roast marshmallows. And if you have a friend with a guitar, all the better (maybe someone in my complex can play?)

These are just some of the coolest activities that I want to try on my patio. What activities do you and your family enjoy on your patio? Answer the question below and one of you will win a $25 Sears gift card!
