Precious Pressure Washer!

Ready to attack grime!

Ryobi’s 1700 PSI Electric Pressure Washer

Second Summer has arrived in Portland. Our Fall weather is great right now offering a chance to finish up those last few projects we didn’t get around to. In particular cleaning and staining our back deck.

Our challenge is cleaning off 23 years of grime from our backyard deck. We moved into our urban 100 year old craftsman home just after the deck had been constructed in 1992.

My worst fear was that the wood might not be salvageable. Luckily our first landlords (we eventually purchased the house from them) had used pressure treated lumber that stood the test of time even though it hadn’t been otherwise stained or sealed.

Planning the project, we envisioned ourselves down on hands and knees scrubbing it all off with powerful detergents. I dreaded the idea.

Then we thought, why not try a pressure washer?

We’ve had great luck with Ryobi outdoor products, so decided to order the Ryobi 1700psi Electric Pressure Washer online at HomeDepot.com. We specifically went with the electric model (Ryobi offers several others, all gas-powered) because, 1) we prefer electric over gasoline, mostly for environmental reasons, and 2) as urban homeowners we thought nearly all our projects would require less power than the gas-powered models provide.

As it turned out the Ryobi 1700 PSI Electric Pressure Washer was perfect!

Even though the Ryobi Pressure Washer has an ample detergent tank, the powerful jet spray cut right through those 23 years of dirt and muck leaving our wood base looking great (maybe all that dirt acted as a preservative 🙂

Amazing! Check out the difference between the original 23 year old grime and after the pressure wash!

In fact you have to be careful when washing wood surfaces as the powerful spray will soon begin cutting into them.

1700 PSI was the perfect amount of power for all our projects around the house, not only the deck, but sidewalks, siding, cleaning out pesky weeds in the cracks of our stonework and more.

Allowing the deck to dry a day or two, we rolled on a great preservative stain from Home Depot. Our deck looks brand new!

I love this pressure washer. It comes with everything you need to start work right out of the box, a 25-foot easy connect hose, spray wand with trigger handle, and three nozzles.

Easy storage for nozzles while not in use. Includes a special nozzle for detergent application.

The best of these is a “Turbo Nozzle” Ryobi includes in the package. The Turbo Nozzle cleans 40-50% faster using a rotating spray feature. It really works! I credit this nozzle with making out deck project so easy. If you had to purchase this separately, you’d spend around $30. The others are used for specific tasks such as applying detergent.

This machine is simple to use. Simply connect the pressure washer hose and spray wand, attach the nozzle, connect your garden hose, plug the washer into a grounded outlet, turn on water, pull the trigger until all the air clears your hose, press the power button, and you’re off!

As with most Ryobi products, it comes with a solid 3-year warranty. Many Ryobi products can have an additional 2 years of warranty coverage simply by registering your product within 30 days of purchase. Ryobi’s warranty speaks volumes to their commitment to quality.

So while the weather is is still great, take advantage and put this pressure washer to work!
